Hypnosis. All you need to know
Hypnosis is amazing. If you could bottle it and sell it on the high street you would make a fortune. Your brain is the most astonishing bit of kit (even more cool than an iPhone) but few of us learn the secrets of getting the best out of it. Understanding and using Hypnosis and NLP is like finding the manual for your brain that you should have received at birth.
Firstly, let's remove the stigma of two words: 'Hypnosis' and 'Trance'. Hollywood, TV and Hypnosis Shows have given these two words a rather dodgy reputation which they do not deserve. When you replace them with the word 'daydream' or with the phrase 'being chilled-out' notice how much better it feels.
You have undoubtedly been in trance before:
- At the Movies
- Being absorbed in a hobby
- Playing a computer game
- Gazing out of the window in a lesson
...and probably a thousand other examples. Trance (and therefore hypnosis) is an every-day occurrence. There has been extensive research which proves that we have to have little moments when we daydream throughout the day. Advertisers use this ability to communicate with our unconscious to make us buy things on impulse. Politicians are expert at making us think what they want us to think. It is all down to subconscious communication and using the power of Hypnosis we can help ourselves to become better - much, much better!
In the examples of every-day hypnosis above, the common factor is that you are completely focused on one thing. When you watch a good film you 'forget' that you are in a cinema and you soon 'forget' the smell of stale popcorn. When you are deeply concentrating on a hobby time seems to 'disappear'. When you gaze out of the window in a lesson you feel 'miles away'. We drop in and out of trance states all the time.
When we are in this trance state, the part of our mind that filters all the incoming information from our senses stops relaying the information to our consciousness. We are only unconsciously aware of this information. Therefore, when our ears hear a suggestion during trance it is kept at the unconscious level and not sent up to our conscious mind to be evaluated. Our unconscious mind will, if it thinks it is a good suggestion, believe it and act upon it.
The unconscious mind is really, really clever. It knows right from wrong and good from bad. If it hears a suggestion that it knows is bad it will not accept or act upon it, instead it would snap you out of your little daydream immediately. The unconscious is your guardian angel whose sole mission is to keep you well, safe and happy.
